This weekend I watched Man on Wire, about the gentleman that tightrope walked between the World Trade Center towers in the 1970's. The individuals in the documentary are unique, quirky and highly entertaining (and would have to be to attempt such a daring feat).
Relatedly, this novel is a fictional account of events surrounding that event in August 1974, New York City. Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann. It's fantastic and highly recommended.
It fascinates me to observe these individuals living their lives on the very precipice of existence. Some may argue that such people are just adrenaline junkies, only existing between hits until they engage in the next heart-pounding endangerment. I say that the rest of us get to comfortable on our couches. It's good to experience adventure in the extremity and get pee-your-pants frightened every once in a while; risk and challenge enable us to feel a sense of accomplishment.
And that concludes my thoughts for today. Thanks for listening and good night.
