Forgive the totally Grey's Anatomy analogy that follows, it just makes sense, alright?
When a broken bone heals, it can of course regain its original functionality, but due to the remodeling that takes place, the bone itself is never the same. It's left with a bump, a scar, a permanent reminder of the alteration. It can't be undone, but at least it made for one hell of a story.
Let all things be as they will, let my heart beat itself still.
